How I discovered the art of not giving a Fuck halfway through a movie.

Aug 03, 2021

For some reason, I just couldn’t be bothered to get worked up over other people being ready on time.

Growing up in a punctual house, my grandfather was known for jingling his keys and tapping his foot while waiting for people to get ready.

If you arrived on time, you were late.

In the past, this programming to be on time, dressed, and prepared would frequently

lead me to overthink and anxiety in order to try to get to events on time.

I would rush about the house fussing to make sure everyone is ready.

Unfortunately, my ex has a different sort of clock ticking and is ready when she’s ready.

I have learned that my anxiety spread and did not inspire confidence or feelings of safety in my leadership.

I had scheduled a movie with my youngest daughter the other day.

Based on the location, I asked my ex if she could drop her to meet me. “Sure”

Checking in an hour before we were supposed to meet to confirming, no response. SMS to my daughter as well…

crickets…

The old me would have paced and fretted and called everybody 20 times and been royally pissed off at the lack of respect with smoke coming out of my ears!

For some reason, I just couldn’t be bothered to get worked up.

It wasn’t up to me to follow through on their end of things.

Not my monkey, not my circus

I decided it was going to work out exactly as it would and I was going to enjoy the movie regardless.

Halfway through the movie, I got an SMS that they both overslept, I sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the movie.

More popcorn for me.

Sometimes we get stuck in our own heads.

Stories of what SHOULD BE swirling around.

Anxious about stuff that isn’t really your problem or in your control?

I coach clients around their experiences with anxiety over lack of control and leading with confidence.

We take a deep look into your beliefs and challenging the truths you are resisting which cause tension and a feeling of being out of control.
